Stuck between desire and ability
It’s strange – after so long without really blogging anywhere, I have the urge to do so once more. This might be because I’ve started a new blog completely unrelated to anything I’ve tacked previously – it’s called The Travelling Wombat, and it contains a lot of photos which illustrate the adventures of a small stuffed animal as it travels round the world (well, it’s been to Italy and Ireland so far, but is off to some other locations soon).
But working on that has given me the blogging bug again, which is good for my personal blog too. Trouble is, although I really want to post here as well, I’m completely stuck for ideas. Even my stack of Quotes and Words of the Day aren’t much help – none of them are providing me with the right sort of inspiration. I haven’t even really written any poems lately that are worthy of being shared with anyone else.
Anyone got any idea they’d be prepared to share with me for something I can post about? (Help? Anyone?)

I think the ‘ideas train’ sometimes needs a kick start. Would you consider dipping into your huge mental resource of books you’ve read and start with a book recommendation or two BUT give yourself free reign to let a post that starts as a book review then go whereever it will.
Does that make any sense at all?

PS when I post a comment, I get an Internal Server Error with the number 500 on it. The comment still posts though. Just FYI.

I need to read something new and then write a book review – you’re right, it would be a good way to kick-start myself again.
And the Error 500 is getting me too – I’ve been trying to figure out what’s going on, though WordPress.org isn’t much help.
Hopefully I can get it sorted out soon (although on the plus side it has reduced the number of spam comments).

I spent almost as much time looking for things to blog about as I do blogging. I like Google Trends and Google News for the more random events of the day that might spark an idea. I also like a site called Preplinks.com which has a lot of odd and interesting stuff.
a quick google brought this
Fixing 500 errors – general
This error can only be resolved by fixes to the Web server software. It is not a client-side problem. It is up to the operators of the Web server site to locate and analyse the logs which should give further information about the error.

I’ve been thinking about doing a list post for a while. You now the thing, the tend best or or worst of. They apparently do well in searches and it’s another way to pull in new readers. Also they make good discussion points.
Art did a good one recently. Give yourself fifteen minutes and write down the ten books that have most influenced you. That was fun to do. What I noted about my list was that all but one book was something I’d read 20-30 years earlier. One one book ‘The Body Artist’ made the cut after that.
Of course, if you’re not tied to a literary theme like me you could expand that to movies and music.

Thanks for that info, Descartes. I can’t spot anything obvious in the website logs, but I’m having a go at creating a new version of the WordPress installation (i.e. new directories and so on) to see if that helps.
A list post is a good idea, Jim, and I think I saw that ’10 books that influence me’ one somewhere too. I may save that one for later.
However, since posting this whinge, I seem to have been picking up inspiration from all directions! Long may it last…
