NaNoWriMo 2008 #8
Woooooooo HOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
And that, my friends, is the sound of me passing the 50,000 words finish line, which I did at about 4pm today while sat in the Roast Café in Belfast with several other WriMos. I was smug. I admit it.
I think I was owed a bit of smugness though – I have never completed my 50,000 so quickly before, in many years of NaNovelling. Plus, I still have quite a lot of story to go and I am Not Yet Burnt Out.
This last is very important. It means that when I finish this particular novel-length story (probably about 70,000 words, which will take it into December), I can take a brief break to re-redraft The Secrets of the Library, which is the novel I worked on over the summer and really really really really really really want to finish. I need to rewrite the plot outline though, and redo some character sheets, and have a think about the themes and concepts that need to be in there. Plus I need to finish re-typing all the bits I wrote during NaNoWriMo 2003 and afterwards (about 30,000 words in total; I’m half-way through).
I feel very creative and very enthused and very productive at the moment though, and I want to keep driving that feeling on. It would be a shame to waste it.
Good luck to everyone else who’s still going, anyway!

Congratulations on the 50K and most of all, congratulations on that feeling!
How sweet to do it among friends too, instead of home alone in the armchair, y’know? I love it!

Warmest congratulations, Catherine. Which is to say, WOOOOOOO! You did it!
(Also, “The Secrets of the Library” is a pretty cool title. Best of luck with it).

that’s great news! after crashing and burning early last year, this year’s been much better, and I anticipate passing 50K before thanksgiving. And I’m thinking I’m still going to have a lot more to type before the tale is actually over. Yay me

Congratulations! That is fabulous that you are not burnt out, too – I sure am! I will hit 50k today and I am rather tired of the lot of my characters!

Hey Catherine – congrats on the 50k! And so early to boot.
And thanks for the comment on my site too – I wasn’t aiming any of that scolding in your direction – I remember you being one of the ones that kept me going while I was flagging last year, and you have n ever been anything other than encouraging. I think the word wars just mean different things to different people, and the current climate (in Dublin) must feel rather harsh to newbies. You’re right about the words pouring out at this stage, but I’ll prob still scrap a lot, finish last year’s one and then try again with this year’s plot outline. Seems we’re both thinking along similar lines….

Fabulous, do you mind if I *don’t* throw myself off the Cliffs of Moher for another while? I’d quite like to see how it all turns out for you.

Thanks for all the congratulations! The smugness has worn off, but the eagerness to finish this damn story hasn’t – because I’m quite excited about planning the next one.
(Still no closer to bottling the feeling though, sorry.)
