I wrote this poem: Doodle
I wouldn’t normally post another poem so soon after the last one, but I wrote this today and it was too much fun not to put up immediately. (Click the image for a bigger version.)
Doodle
This is not a poem.
It’s just scribble,
a doodle in which
my wandering pencil
forms random lines
resembling letters
arranged into words
to make this.
Which is definitely not a poem.

Nice. What do you call a poem that goes round and round? This one could do that, the end segueing into the beginning.
And *so* revealing to see the handwriting… dot every ‘i’, cross every ‘t’ and the spider has eight legs! Veerrry interesting.
(I’m kidding obviously, I know nothing about handwriting and such)

Ken, you counted the spider’s legs? And you’re insinuating that I might have slight anal-retentive tendencies?!!

You do like the word ‘which’ don’t you?

I like the way it looks and I like the way it sounds! A nice bite-sized bit of writing-doodling, it reminds me of how candid snaps are so often appealing next to formal portraits, you know? I’d like to see it on the back of a chapbook, I think.

I don’t know… it’s sort of quacking like a duck, ya know?
But it’s charming and fun, and ultimately, it doesn’t matter what you call it so long as it makes you smile.

I like it. Writing really does feel like that at times, when you look back at something you wrote. I often wonder if anyone can understand what I was trying to explain/ describe. Communication is never black and white.

I featured your Doodle on Word Grrls. Gave a link back to your blog and the post here. Really liked what you wrote.

Jim – I don’t like the word ‘which’ as much as I appear to (although it appears a lot in my work-writing, from necessity) – which (grr) is why most of them got removed! The reason for the 3 in a row is just that I couldn’t decide whether to place that one at the end of the one line or the start of the next.
Thanks, Kouji.
Susan #1 -Ah, but whose chapbook? Not mine, that’s not something I aspire to.
Susan #2 – It took me a couple of minutes to get what you meant, but you’re right – it looks like a duck, it quacks like a duck…
But it was written in the same way as I doodle shapes, and it really was just that sort of idle twiddling.
Laura – Cheers for the link on Word Grrls! I’ll check that out asap.
