Work in Progress (28/07/08)

So, I’m into my second week of the 10K challenge.

Cue hysterical laughter.

I managed all of 2,377 words last week, but I keep reminding myself that that’s 2,377 more than I wrote the week before. If I can even manage to double that this week, I’ll be proud of myself. I’m going to London this coming weekend though, so on the plus side, that means time on planes and trains with not much to do but write; on the minus side, it means a lot of other things to do (mostly musicals and gin-drinking, and perhaps a trip to the zoo or the Tate Modern).

So although I will keep aiming for 10,000 words this week, I’ll be content with 5,000 plus a re-redrawn outline (am not happy with the one I have) and some freshened up character sheets.

It’s just a shame that I can’t blame my lack of blog posts last week on the amount of fiction I was writing. :(

Take a break from your 10K words for a second and go check this out:

“Up in the north of England, in Hartlepool, is the oldest british naval vessel still afloat, HMS Trincomalee.
    http://www.hms-trincomalee.co.uk/virtual/detail/detail.htm
Her sister ship, HMS Unicorn, floats a little further north in Dundee, Scotland.”

    Dimples, huh? :)

London? Musicals? Tate Modern? Well now, don’t I just look like a goober sitting at home writing (especially when 85% just gets edited back out)…. trade??

    What will you be seeing?

Not sure yet what we’ll see – possibly Mamma Mia! – but it all depends on tickets (and also what the friend I’m going with has already seen). We’re just going to pick up tickets when we’re there.
I’m hoping it doesn’t rain too much so I can sit in a park with my notebook and look intellectual.

Also, just a random note to say that although 700 words in 2 days doesn’t look like much, I’ve started retyping the first few chapters in order to a) reacquaint myself with the story and b) do some necessary editing. So I’ve retyped just over 2000 words; added to the 700 new words, that about puts me right on track!
