Read: June 2008
Poseidon’s Gold, Lindsey Davis - finished Tuesday 3rd. Own copy.
Last Act in Palmyra, Lindsey Davis - finished Sunday 8th. Own copy.
More comfort reading - once I start a run of Falco novels, I usually end up reading at least 3 or 4, sometimes more. Even though I could’ve kept plodding through the lot this time, I decided to call a halt as I had other stuff to read.

Iron Kissed, Patricia Briggs - finished Thursday 12th. Borrowed from Marion, first read.
This is a good follow-on from Briggs’ previous Mercedes Thompson novels, Moon Called and Blood Bound. After the werewolves and vampires of the other books, this one’s about the fae - fairies who have ‘come out’ to society at large but are still persecuted. I really like this series.
Making Money, Terry Pratchett - finished Wednesday 18th. Own copy, first read. Re-read, finished Sunday 22nd.
The latest one to come out in paperback, and a good continuation of Moist von Lipwig’s story. And a happy birthday present for myself!
The Gone-Away World, Nick Harkaway - finished Wednesday 18th (I took a break near the end to read Making Money). Own copy, re-read.
My review
Dingo, Charles de Lint - finished Thursday 19th. Borrowed from Marion, first read.
A nice little YA fantasy with well-written characters. I’ve always liked how Charles de Lint melds the mundane with the fantastic.
The Android’s Dream, John Scalzi - finished Friday 20th. Library book, first read.
The events of the story were amusing in a manic and far-fetched sort-of way, but they were let down by the writing, which wasn’t as funny as it could’ve been. I do like SF humour though.
Personal Demon, Kelley Armstrong - finished Monday 23rd. Borrowed from Marion, first read. Re-read, finished Monday 30th.
The latest in her Women of the Underworld series, which I enjoy a lot. This one introduces a mostly-new character, and has some interesting ideas in it.
Wolf Moon, Charles de Lint - finished Monday 23rd. Borrowed from Marion, first read.
Not one of his best - a bit short and the characterisation was brief too. Decent plane fodder though.
Hit or Myth, Robert Asprin - finished Wednesday 25th. Own copy, first read (well, I might have read it years ago, can’t remember).
This series is always good for a quick pick-me-up giggle - I’ve just BookMooched a couple more that I didn’t already have.
The Science of Discworld II: The Globe, Terry Pratchett, Ian Stewart and Jack Cohen - finished Friday 27th. Own copy, first read (again, as far as I can remember).
The science of our world and universe offset against the magic of the Discworld. Intriguing stuff. And I once broke one of Jack Cohen’s demonstration aliens at a lecture I attended. It was an accident, honest (just like the time I broke Sir Harry Kroto’s C-90 model).
Grunts!, Mary Gentle - finished Saturday 29th. Own copy, first read.
Orcs become Marines. Very different to her normal stuff, but fairly enjoyable anyway.
Total for June 2008: 11 + 3 re-reads
Ongoing total for 2008: 76 + 8 re-reads
