Stuff I like on the internet #2
Here are some blog posts I’ve found interesting of late (and I freely admit that this post is partly filler):
- “An Introduction to the Vocabulary of Poetry” - Writing Forward - a run-through of ways of using words in poetry, such as alliteration and assonance
- “More on Found Poetry” - The Writing Nag - an interesting explanation of how to take phrases from pretty much anything and assemble them into poems; I keep meaning to try this for at least one of my NaPoWriMo poems…
- “You Write Badly: Six Seriously Annoying Writing Mistakes To Avoid” - Blog Badly - six style-related things to avoid when writing blog posts
- and mostly for fun: “Can You Pass This Test?” - Dot Com Mogul - does your left brain or your right brain rule? Can you swap between them? (I could, with effort!)

Thank you for the link and honorable mention
Poetry month is almost over at Writing Forward, but it has been one of my favorite topics to date, one we’ll definitely have to revisit.

Ugh, that writing badly sounds like something that’d make me cringe!
Good topics!

A useful post - particularly so for a filler! I have had a quick look at the links; they are all really worth a return visit. I was particularly interested in the one on found poetry.

Lovely post. I’d seen the spinning girl before, but it still freaks me out: I can make her switch directions, but with literally no idea how I’m doing it.
I also enjoyed the “You Write Badly” article. I hate randomly capitalised words, and I don’t really understand the thinking behind them either.

She was going clockwise until I focused hard on her foot and made it change direction. Then she was going counter-clockwise. But I could only make her change (either direction) by ignoring everything but that foot for a while. Weird.

Thanks people - glad you liked my selection of links! (It’s encouragement to save some more for next time I can’t think of anything else to post…)
And Lianne - that’s how I got her to swap, too! I had to scroll down so I could see nothing but the foot; concentrate on that for a bit; then when I scrolled back up, she was going the opposite way.
