Work in Progress (09/02/08)

This entry is part 12 of 21 in the series Work in Progress

I’ve had a story - a novel-length one - bubbling round in my head for a few weeks now. Characters and situations, mainly, with some scenes considered in detail, but I’ve realised that there is scope to write something properly.

But although I’m happy to jump around in the plot once I’ve actually started writing, I do like to start at the beginning. And that was where I had a problem… at least until last night, just as I was getting into bed, when I realised I knew where I wanted to start, and how. So, after running through some dialogue in my head, I decided that if I didn’t make a note of it, it would be lost for ever (in sleep), and I hopped back out of bed to find my notebook and actually write a couple of hundred words.

I’m proud of myself. It may have nothing to do with my NaNoWriMo projects, but I know where I’m headed with this, enough to draw up an outline and some character sheets this weekend, and it’s got legs.

I also wrote half a poem in my head during the drive home on Thursday, that I committed to file last night. And I know what’s happening with the other half, too.

Go me! (At last.)
