Gruntling
Today, I am feeling quite gruntled. It’s a good day, I got up early, and I’m seeing foreign friends this evening.
Apparently, according to The Concise Oxford Dictionary of English Etymology, disgruntled comes from the word grunt.
Merriam Webster explains that it comes from gruntlen which is the Middle English for grunt, which makes a little more sense, though not that much.
In any case, I don’t care about the etymology. I want to be able to be gruntled as well as disgruntled. Words are silly sometimes.
And with a nod to P. G. Wodehouse (The Code of the Woosters):
He spoke with a certain what-is-it in his voice, and I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.
